Takashi Honami (Yutaka Takenouchi) is an associate professor in mathematics. He has a problem talking with others. His wife Nao (Mimura) becomes fed up with him and takes their child and leaves him. His boss at the university tells him to take a speech class, but Takashi Honami encounters trouble with his instructor Kyoko Ezaki (Kumiko Aso). A few days later, he meets Kyoko Ezaki again at an unexpected place.
Koichi Miyazawa (Koji Yakusho) runs a small, but longstanding company which makes tabi (traditional Japanese socks). He is the CEO of the fourth generation company with about 20 employees. Due to a decrease of demand for tabi, the company is struggling to keep afloat. Koichi Miyazawa thinks about launching a new product line. The new product is running shoes. For the company's surival, Koichi Miyazawa begins to develop running shoes using their accumulated knowledge for making tabi.
Nami Isayama (Haruka Ayase) met a man through a blind date and married him. She and her husband moved to a quiet, exclusive residential area. Nami is now a housewife and she decides to take cooking classes. She meets other housewives at the cooking class and receives tips from them, while becoming friends. Nami surmises that one of the housewives in her cooking class is the victim of domestic violence. Nami decides to save the victim by herself.
Tomoko Sato (Ryoko Shinohara) lives an ordinary life with her husband and son. As a child, her parents disappeared separately. She eventually had to drop out of high school, but Tomoko Sato was still able to live her life faithfully. She met her husband Kohei (Kei Tanaka) at work when she was a part-time employee.
Her husband has cycled through multiple jobs without ever securing a permanent position since they married. Tomoko works part-time to make ends meet, but she gets fired from her. She is in her 40's and a high school dropout. She is worried about finding another job. Tomoko Sato then watches TV and learns about a scandal concerning a city council member. She also learns that the pay for a city council member is high. She decides to run for the city council position for her family's happiness.
Jiro (Sho Aoyagi) and Mifuyu (Riko Narumi) are a couple who just started dating. One day, they argue about how to eat the yolk of a fried egg. Jiro is stubborn about how to eat and he has a hard time dealing with people who eat differently. This causes Jiro to reflect deeply on his relationship with others including Mifuyu. He opens up to the different ways people eat and the different thoughts of others
Mitsuki Hiura (Miki Nakatani) is the former manager for a university American-style football team. A reunion for the football team takes place. Mitsuki Hiura attends the reunion, as well as the team's former quarterback Tetsurou Nishiwaki and other teammates. There, Mitsuki Hiura confesses that she killed a person. She also claims that due to a gender identity disorder, she now lives as a man. After their initial shock, Tetsurou Nishiwaki and other colleagues attempt to help Mitsuki Hiura.
Kayo Baba (Kyoko Koizumi) is imprisoned on attempted murder charges. She stabbed her husband who had an affair. In the prison, Kayo Baba meets Akemi Adachi (Aiko Morishita), who is in prison for illegal drug possession, Chinatsu Katsuda (Miho Kanno), who is in prison for for tax evasion, Yoko Daimon (Maki Sakai), who is in prison for fraud & embezzlement, and Shinobu Edogawa (Kaho), who is in prison for murder. Chinatsu Katsuda is the leader among the prisoners. Meanwhile, Futaba Wakai (Hikari Mitsushima) is a strict prison officer. She observes the prisoners and tries to help them with education.
At first, Kayo Baba finds it difficult to adapt to life prison. She forms a bond with the 4 prisoners. She also learns Shinobu Edogawa is imprisoned due to a miscarriage of justice
Six years later, Kayo Baba is released from prison. She meets with Akemi Adachi, Chinatsu Katsuda and Yoko Daimon. They make a plan to take revenge for Shinobu Edogawa. Futaba Wakai also joins their plan.
Kanji Senkawa (Dean Fujioka) receives requests which the police or private investigators can't handle. He solves the cases by threatening people. Kanji Senkawa meets wealthy university student Mio Kanesaka (Emi Takei). She has a good heart and and can't ignore those in difficult situations. Kanji and Mio get involved in various cases including voice phishing and kidnappings.
Isao Komori is a college dropout who spends his days cooped up in his apartment playing video games. The highlight of his day is visiting a convenience store where an angel-like high-school girl called Mari visits every night.
One morning Komori wakes up in Mari's body. Another "Komori" inhabits his old body, and Mari has disappeared. Komori struggles to maintain Mari's ordinary life and starts to investigate Mari's disappearance.
29-year-old Hinata Aizawa (Mao Inoue) works as a counselor at a high school. She works hard for the students who have worries about school and their family. Hinata Aizawa grew up with her mother who interfered excessively when she was younger.
One day, a male student visits Hinata Aizawa. He refuses to attend school and tells her he likes her. The next day, the male student is found dead. Hinata Aizawa tries to uncover the truth behind his death.
